Vacon is a global manufacturer of variable-speed AC drives for adjustable control of electric motors, and inverters for producing energy from renewable sources. The company has headquarters in Vaasa, Finland. Vacon acquired TB Woods VFD division in early 2007.
TB Wood`s, founded in 1857 as a manufacturer of wood-burning stoves, introduced V-belt drive systems in the 1930s. In 1968, it entered the electronic motor controls business, initially with DC controls, followed in 1984 by AC inverters. It specialises in AC drives for demanding environments, and will expand Vacon’s product portfolio in this market.
